Ocean for Life 2011
The 2011 field study will be held in Santa Barbara, California and on Santa Cruz Island hosted by Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary from July 14-26, 2011.

Hey everyone. I am going to be blogging about my experience during the Ocean for Life Program. I will be sharing to you about everything I learn and the experiences I encounter. I do not know how much computer access I will have so I will try to update this as much as I can.

Here is some information:

Thirty students, including 12 from the United States, were selected out of hundreds of applications for the 2011 OFL program, through a highly competitive process. The American students hail from Illinois, Arizona, Michigan, California, Florida, Rhode Island, Washington, American Samoa and Hawai`i. Eighteen students were selected by The GLOBE Program from the Greater Middle East, including Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Morocco.

The Ocean for Life program is designed around three main themes: a sense of place, interconnectedness, and ocean conservation and stewardship. Activities focus on ocean science and exploration, cultural exchanges and youth media projects. Students will document their experiences through video or still photography, mentored by staff from National Geographic Media Camp and American University’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking.

VISION
Promote cross-cultural understanding between world cultures through a greater appreciation of the ocean and how it connects us all.
MISSION
Provide high-quality, immersive ocean field studies and follow-on education programs to facilitate cross-cultural learning, appreciation and lasting experiences between multi-national students.

Thanks for reading and I will keep you posted!
